Alaska Fishing Report: Silver Salmon, Halibut, and Rockfish Action at Screamin’ Reels Lodge
It has been a thrilling season on the water, and we have an Alaska fishing report highlighting just how strong the action has been for guests at Screamin’ Reels Lodge. With steady salmon runs, quality halibut, and reliable rockfish opportunities, anglers are heading home with life-long memories made and delicious Alaska seafood to share with family and friends.
Silver Salmon Success Fishing Craig, Alaska!
Silver salmon fishing has been outstanding, with limits consistently reached by mid-morning each day on all three of our boats. The preferred method remains hands-on mooching with plug-cut herring paired with twin 3/0 hooks, a style that keeps guests fully engaged in the action. Fishing around Noyes Island and Lulu Islands, calm waters have made for smooth mornings, and fast fishing with silver salmon averaging 9–12 pounds that provide a great fight. In the report, it’s worth noting how quickly our professional deckhands efficiently work at netting fish, baiting hooks, and preparing the day’s catch to maintain a top-quality product for our anglers to take home and enjoy. Every salmon is bled, cleaned, and placed in a chilled 31-degree saltwater bath to ensure the salmon remains as fresh as the moment it left the ocean.
Halibut Fishing Delivers Big Rewards
After catching silver salmon limits, anglers shift focus to halibut and rockfish, and the results have been just as impressive. Keeper halibut in the 33”–37” range have been steady, while those anglers who have purchased Guided Angler Fish (GAF) tags have enjoyed reeling in giants. Screamin’ Reels Lodge targets halibut between 70 and 140 pounds and releases the largest of fish, with many over 150-250 pounds, to protect core breeding stock. In fact, all 47 GAF tags purchased so far this season have been successfully filled, making for an exciting highlight to report. Guests take home prime halibut fillets and unforgettable stories of battling barn-door fish that define an authentic Alaska fishing adventure.
Rockfish Rounds Out the Variety
Rockfish continue to provide consistent action throughout the season, with limits achieved on most every trip. Guests will find an added layer of enjoyment, offering a variety of fish to prepare and share with friends and family back home. With steady numbers and reliable size, rockfish play an important role in Screamin’ Reels’ fishing experience, and ensure anglers get to return home with a variety of delicious Alaskan seafood to enjoy with family and friends.
An Alaska Fishing Season Worth Celebrating
It’s been a rewarding year for the team, from fantastic King Salmon fishing in May & June to early morning silver salmon limits to heavy halibut and colorful rockfish. The Screamin’ Reels August fishing report captures just a glimpse of the experiences our guests have enjoyed, but the real excitement happens when you’re on the large boats with a rod in hand, surrounded by humpback whales, sea otters, bald eagles flying overhead, and the beauty of the Southeast Alaskan landscape. If you’re ready to plan your own all-inclusive adventure, we’re already booking for 2026 and look forward to welcoming you for an unforgettable trip!
